Basic Guidelines
- All abstracts must be submitted through the SACNAS online submission system. Students will be prompted to the
submission system after completing conference registration.
- Abstract word limit is 250 (maximum).* No graphics or schema are allowed in SACNAS abstract submissions.
- Summer program abstract submissions deadline: 7/20/2010.
- All abstract submissions are professionally reviewed. After receiving feedback from mentor-reviewers, students
are highly encouraged to update their abstract submission (based on SACNAS reviewer suggestions, developments in
on-going research, and consultations with advisors/mentors) to represent themselves and their research in a professional
and polished manner in the abstracts volume.
* Note re: incomplete results: if research results are not available the time of the submission
deadline, authors are encouraged to submit predicted results, discussing the significance and implications of predicted
results. Students are similarly encouraged to discuss differences between predicted and actual results when presenting
research at the conference.
Guidelines: Structure
- Title (not part of abstract 250-word count limit)
- Introduction
- Hypothesis, purpose, or objective (as appropriate per discipline)
- Essential methods and materials used
- Results/predicated results
- Summary and conclusion
Guidelines: Authorship
- Abstract submission must be completed by the individual presenting the research at the
conference.
- For collaborative research projects, more than one author may submit a single abstract. SACNAS may allow
more than one author to present the research at the conference. For more information on multiple presenters of
shared research, please contact Nancy Rocha, nancy@sacnas.org.
- If the abstract is selected for presentation, but the presenter listed is unable to present for any reason,
the presentation space will be forfeited. SACNAS cannot guarantee that another member of the research group may
serve as a substitute presenter.
Guidelines: Audiovisual Equipment
Abstract Review Criteria
Each abstract will be reviewed by a minimum of two discipline-specific professionals. The SACNAS Student Presentations
Committee has developed the following criteria for review of abstracts:
- Hypothesis/purpose/objective of research is clearly stated
- Methods and materials essential to the research are identified

or predicted conclusions
