The Science Disciplinary Associate will work with the Teacher Professional Development team designing materials to be used in the professional growth of secondary science teachers who work with English language learners. He or she will implement professional development seminars and institutes for teachers, coaches, and school and district administrators and will coach teachers in low performing schools to implement quality educational programs for language minority students.

The Science Disciplinary Associate will also participate in research and evaluation projects in all aspects of teacher professional development and the education of English Language Learners. Responsibilities Conduct professional development sessions for teachers, professional developers, coaches, and administrators on rigorous content area instruction and the development of disciplinary academic discourse by English learners. Develop tools and processes in science disciplinary literacy, with a focus on academic language development for language minority students. Coach teachers and schools in the implementation of quality educational programs for English Language Learners. Participate in research and evaluation projects in teacher professional development from pre-service to in-service and the education of English language learners.

Qualifications Master's degree in Education, with an emphasis on Science and English Language Acquisition. Ph.D. preferred. A minimum of five years experience teaching Science in secondary schools in the United States. Demonstrated success in teacher professional development across the continuum especially in the areas of science and English as a second language and/or in turning around underperforming schools. Competence in the development of materials for teacher professional development. Knowledge of a wide variety of approaches and materials for the science education of linguistically diverse students. Knowledge of school reform efforts and their role in the education of English learners. Excellent communication skills for implementing workshops, institutes,coaching programs, and site-based research. Superior written communication skills. Experience in product development and writing for publication. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse staff, colleagues and clients. Willingness to work in the development and generation of funding through educational, business and or other entreprenurial finding sources. Ability to travel nationally.
