He is involved in projects focused on understanding the role of genomics in health disparities, identifying the societal implications of genomics, and analyzing the health care and science policies relevant to these issues. Much of his work draws from the investigation of human genetic variation (from both a basic science and social science perspective) and its potential link to health and disease. Dr. Ramos received a doctorate in molecular biotechnology from the University of Washington with a dissertation on chromosome dynamics carried out at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in 2006. During his graduate studies, Dr. Ramos also focused on supporting and creating opportunities for underrepresented minorities in the sciences. He was an active participant in organizations and programs aimed at recruitment and retention of minorities in biomedical programs and other initiatives that provided exposure to young students interested in genetics and genomics. In 2006, he was awarded the American Society of Human Genetics/NHGRI Genetics and Public Policy Fellowship. The fellowship was carried out in the Policy and Program Analysis Branch of NHGRI and the congressional component in the Office of United States Senator Barack Obama. After completing his fellowship, he worked on the professional staff of then Senator Obama advising on health and science policy as a Legislative Assistant. Contact & Elections Information
