    STUDENT SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS

    ABSTRACT INFORMATION

Inclusion in the SACNAS National Conference Abstracts Volume of accepted abstract submissions from summer research programs participants is not guaranteed and is determined based on review by the SACNAS Student Presentations Committee and availability of space.

Summer Abstract Submission Opens: June 2, 2008
Summer Abstract Submission Deadline: August 1, 2008

Oral and poster research presentations are a fundamental component of the SACNAS National Conference. Year after year presenters from community colleges to major research institutions continue to impress their audiences with the quality of their research and presentation. The professional scientific setting provides undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to share their research and receive feedback from renowned scientists, peers, and judges. First time and returning presenters will find their experience an invaluable one. Submission of abstracts in all science disciplines is encouraged.

What is the Summer Abstract Submission System Process?
Instructions for Program Directors and Their Students

How do my summer program students submit an abstract?
Program directors must enroll their summer program with SACNAS before students participating in that summer program may access the summer research abstract submission system. Once the program is enrolled, SACNAS will issue an access code for directors. Distribute the code to your students; when they use SACNAS’ online summer abstract submission system, they must enter this access code in order to begin the submission of their research abstract. Note: Program directors do not need to be SACNAS members to enroll a summer program.

How do I enroll my summer program?
Program directors can enroll their summer programs starting: To Be Announced
    1. Login to your MySACNAS account or, if you do not already have one, create a new user account including your email, name, institution, and address.
    2. Select the link on the left: "MySACNAS Home"
(On the "MySACNAS Home" page you will have access to the link to begin the process of enrolling your program.)
    3. Click on the link to "Enroll Summer Program."
    4. Fill out the required information. The form requires you to submit basic information on your summer program.
    5. Upon successful submission, a confirmation page will appear. This page will contain your program’s unique access code. Your program is now enrolled.

How do I invite the students in my program to enroll?
It is the program director's responsibility to submit their students’ email addresses in the summer program system and to manage their progress.
    1. Login to your MySACNAS account and return to the "MySACNAS Home" page.
    2. Select the link for "Manage Your Summer Program."
    3. Enter the email addresses of each of the summer program students you would like to have access to the summer abstract submissions system. Upon submission of each unique email address, the system will send an automated email to that student with your program's unique access code and summer abstract submission instructions.
    4. Up until the summer abstract submission deadline (August 1, 2008), you may return to the “Manage Your Summer Program” page at any time to review your students’ status.

How do I manage my students submitting summer research abstracts?
Program directors have access to a management site through their MySACNAS account. On the “Manage Your Summer Program” page, you will be able to:

    • add student emails
    • send automated reminder emails to students regarding submission of their abstract

What does the abstract submission process entail?
Presenters are required to first register online for the conference via MySACNAS. Upon completion of conference registration, presenters enter the online abstract submission system (hosted on a separate site through a contracted abstract service). Prospective presenters are required to submit details regarding their research project, collaborators, and research advisor(s). They will be asked to use the abstract template, available through the online abstract submission system, to upload their research abstract. Note: Payment for presenters' conference registration and membership dues are required at the time of registration; if your program or another institution will be covering the cost of the presenter's registration and/or dues, you must enter the individual in the "Sponsor an Individual" system in MySACNAS before the presenter begins the registration and abstract submission process.

For additional information on sponsoring the registration and/or dues of one or more individual, please see the sponsor an attendee page.

To learn more about what information your students will need to submit and the complete instructions for abstract format and content, please visit the call for abstracts page.
