SACNAS offers financial scholarships for postdoctoral researchers to attend the SACNAS National Conference.
Below are the eligibility requirements and materials needed to apply for financial assistance
to attend the SACNAS National Conference
Eligibility
- 1) A postdoc must satisfy all of these specifications:
- pursue a program of research and training under the direction of a faculty member or research scientist
- have an appointment that may not total more than five years of services or less than one month
- have an institutional source of funding, e.g. fellowship, traineeship or equivalent external support.
- may not be employed as faculty or as a research scientist
Application Materials
To be eligible for travel scholarship, the following requirements must be completed by the application deadline: 4/30/2010
1) Registration:
Register for the National Conference prior to submitting your Travel Scholarship application. You will be unable to access the Travel Scholarship application
until the online registration form is completed and submitted online. Travel Scholarship awards do NOT cover conference registration fees.
2) SACNAS Membership: Travel Scholarship applicants must have current membership;
dues must be paid and current through 10/3/2010. Postdoc membership is $45. The Travel Scholarship application is accessible once you have current SACNAS membership that is paid in full.
3) Travel Scholarship Application: Application must be submitted online. Applicants must indicate
on the appropriate sections of the application form whether they are applying for travel support or lodging support or both.
500 Word-Statement of Purpose: Submit the statement of purpose online in the space provided.
Applications missing statement of purpose will not be accepted. Statements must meet a 500-word minimum or the application will be rejected.
Describe your current research and/or field of study and future career goals. Include why you would like to attend the SACNAS National Conference
and how attending the conference will help you in your academic and professional career.
4) Curriculum Vitae - Curriculum Vitae must be submitted online as a PDF document by 4/30/2010.
Award Details
Travel Scholarship awards include lodging and/or travel to the SACNAS National Conference. Notification
of application status will be sent via email in mid-July. All Travel Scholarship awardees will be required
to submit a Travel Scholarship contract by the required deadline to finalize and activate the award; failure
to submit the contract by the deadline will invalidate the Travel Scholarship award. Air travel and/or lodging
arrangements will be made by SACNAS upon receipt of signed Travel Scholarship contract.
Failure to follow the cancellation policy may result in financial charges to the postdoc for air travel, lodging, and registration fees (up to $1,000 in fees).
Lodging
Postdocs will be housed 2 to a room at a conference hotel. Awards cover room and tax only. Incidentals are not covered.
Travel
Standard travel: All Travel Scholarship recipients will be scheduled to arrive by Wednesday October 10 and depart on
Sunday October 14. If you are participating in a preconference workshop or flying from Hawaii, Alaska or other
distant locations, travel dates may be as early as Tuesday, October 9. SACNAS does not cover ground transportation to and from the airport
