If you are a professional attending the 2010 SACNAS Conference, SACNAS kindly requests that you volunteer to serve as a student presentation judge. At least 130 individuals are needed to ensure all student presenters are mentored and presentations are judged fairly.  

Eligibility: SACNAS requests judges to hold a PhD in their field.     
Additional Information: Judges review between approximately 6 student posters per day and/or 4-5 graduate student oral presentations.

Each year, SACNAS partners with Native Energy to purchase carbon offsets with proceeds from conference registrations. SACNAS provides a summer travel scholarship application and abstract submission process specifically for students participating in summer research programs. This process requires that program directors enroll their summer research program in the SACNAS system. 

The summer program enrollment system opens on Monday May 17th. Please take note that there are separate summer deadlines for each program:     

• Travel Scholarship application deadline: Friday July 9th  
•  Abstract submission deadline: Tuesday July 20th      

Note: Program directors that have enrolled their summer programs in the last three years should expect a letter from SACNAS by the end of this week.

Submission of annual reports is a requirement for chapters to retain ACTIVE status. Chapter officers may access the new annual report form online; it is the responsibility of chapter officers to submit the annual report by the deadline to prevent the chapter from becoming inactive.

To maintain "Active Status" for the 2010-2011 academic year, chapter annual reports must be submitted by June 30.

Significant changes have been made to reduce the complexity and required documentation in the application process for the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program. It is now faster and easier to apply!

The NHSC awards up to $50,000 toward repayment of qualifying, outstanding, educational loans for primary medical, dental and mental health clinicians. Funds are provided in exchange for a commitment of two years of service at an approved site in a Health Professional Shortage Area.

Keystone Symposia Scholarship Opportunities Keystone Symposia offers a variety of scholarships and student discounts to attend upcoming conferences. Keystone Symposia scholarships are awarded based on abstract quality. Application deadlines are four months prior to the start of each meeting. Specific deadline dates are viewable on each meeting webpage.

Salish Kootenai College, the tribal college of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, is offering a new Bachelor of Science in Science Education degree to prepare middle school and high school science teachers. Full scholarships and stipends are available on a competitive basis to American Indian students and descendants who enroll in the program.

The Senior Research Assistant position under the Health and Treatment Research Divison at the Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University is an internship position encouraged for Barbara Jordan Scholars. Projects included for this position involve researching and managing programs for addiction treatments and healthcare. Projects emphasize government systems coordination and familiarity with public administration and public policy. Barbara Jordan Scholars should send a resume and cover letter to Gerod Hall.

Individuals interested in pursuing science, engineering, mathematics and agricultural Master's or PhD degrees at the University of Arizona (UA) are invited to apply.  $32,100 for Master's Program ($16,050/yr) and $36,650 for PhD Program (use as needed) .  In-State and Out-of-State Tuition (summer not included). Academic support and faculty advising stipends may be supplemental by teaching or research assistantships, tribal funds, and other scholarships.

The Fellowship Program provides context, understanding and insight regarding the development of high-powered research meetings, utilizing shadowing experiences with scientist organizers and key Keystone Symposia staff members. Fellowship experiences allow for learning how the research agenda is set, how to engage in high-level discourse on research topics and how to broaden perspectives in life science research. The application process for the 2010-2011 Keystone Symposia Fellows Program year will open June 1, 2010.

Applications are being accepted for the 5th Annual NIG National Graduate Research Festival to be held October 25th and 26th on the main NIH Campus in Bethesda, Maryland. The purpose of this event is to recruit outstanding young scientists to postdoctoral positions in the intramural research program in the U.S. and on scheduel to complete thier PhD degree requirments by October 2011.

Keystone Symposia's 40th meeting season begins October 2010. NIGMS has just launched a strategic planning process focused on its research training and career development activities. We’re seeking broad input from university and college faculty members and administrators, current and former predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees, industry representatives, representatives of professional and scientific organizations, and other interested parties. Input can be via the Web from March 2 to April 21, at regional stakeholder meetings between April 29 and June 4, or in a webinar for predoctoral and
postdoctoral trainees on June 11.
