Board Elections - Online Voting Opens
As a current member (membership dues have been paid and expires after December 10, 2006) you are eligible to complete one official election and by-laws ballot.
How to Vote Online
Paper Ballots will only be mailed on request. Paper ballots must be received by Monday, December 31, 2006 to be counted. Please note: You must choose to vote online or submit a paper ballot. If a paper ballot and an electronic ballot are received with the same voting number, only the first ballot received will be counted. PhD Program in Biomedical Sciences – Study human disease using cancer as a model
The goal of the Gerstner Sloan-Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is to train a cadre of outstanding scientists who will explore new advances and developing fields in biomedical sciences and apply their training directly to advancing the understanding of human disease. The School offers the next generation of basic scientists a program to study the biological sciences through the lens of cancer -- while giving students the tools they will need to put them in the vanguard of research that can be applied in any area of human disease. All students who are accepted to the graduate program are offered a full fellowship package (stipend, tuition, health insurance & travel awards) for the duration of study. Summer Undergraduate Research Program
Gerstner Sloan-Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (New York City) sponsors a SURP for students interested in pursuing a career in the biomedical sciences, especially human disease. Call for Applications: AIBS Diversity Scholars Program - travel awards for biology-related research
The American Institute of Biological Sciences is accepting applications and nominations for its Diversity Scholars Program. The AIBS Diversity Scholars Program recognizes outstanding minority students. Awardees receive a $1,000 travel award to present research at a scientific meeting of their choice; free registration at the AIBS annual meeting; free 12-month membership in AIBS; and a 12-month subscription to BioScience. AMERICAN INDIAN/ALASKA NATIVE AND HISPANIC/LATINO CANDIDATES ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY The Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholars Program provides talented college students of color the opportunity to work in a congressional office with major health policy responsibilities. The scholars’ work experiences are augmented by seminars, site visits and the preparation and presentation of policy papers. Scholars receive approximately $7,500 in support, including stipend, expenses, transportation and lodging. In the event that a college or university will award credit(s) for participation in the program, the Foundation and the University will submit or facilitate the submission of all official documentation necessary to obtain such credit(s).

Knowles Science Teaching Foundation Fellowships for Prospective Science and Mathematics Teachers
KSTF offers teaching fellowships to those planning to teach science or mathematics in U.S. high schools. Fellows receive tuition assistance and a stipend while enrolled in a recognized teacher credential program, summer professional development, travel to three annual meetings, membership in a professional organization, and more. NSF-IGERT Traineeships in Perceptual Science at Rutgers University
Rutgers has recently been awarded an NSF IGERT training grant in Interdisciplinary Perceptual Science ($30K stipend). Our training program is a collaboration among faculty in Psychology, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Anthropology. SOARS Internship now Accepting Applications!
SOARS is a summer internship program for students interested in the geosciences. Up to four years of paid summer research, mentoring, and funding for undergraduate and graduate education. Work in Boulder, CO with a team of scientists at NCAR and partnering laboratories on a project matched to your interests and skills. Perform original research, prepare a scientific paper, and present your research at a colloquium. Housing and transport to and from Boulder is provided.

Postdoc, Junior/Tenured Faculty and Professional Opportunities
State Dept. Fellows Program Accepting Applications
The Jefferson Science Fellows Program is now accepting applications. Administered by the National Academies, the program offers senior academic scientists and engineers the opportunity to advise State Department policymakers on science and technology. Each Fellow will spend one year at the US Department of State for an on-site assignment in Washington DC that may also involve extended stays at US foreign embassies or missions. WISEST Science and Engineering Postdoctoral Fellowship for Academic Diversity at UIC
The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Women in Science and Engineering System Transformation (WISEST) project, an NSF ADVANCE awardee, has the overarching goal of increasing the number, participation, and leadership status of women in academic science and engineering. A significant component of this effort is a two-year postdoctoral fellowship designed for underrepresented minority women who have recently earned their PhDs in the natural sciences, engineering, or mathematics. This research-focused fellowship will mentor women scholars and help them prepare for faculty careers. Two-year fellowships in August of 2007. Stipends meet or exceed nationally competitive levels, and include a generous benefits package. This unique opportunity surpasses traditional postdoctoral research experiences, and expressly focuses on the development of future faculty.
