2008 U.S. DOE Paid Summer Undergraduate Laboratory Internships
SACNAS has partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science to provide an exciting ten week paid summer undergraduate internship program for thirty talented students. The program aims to deepen research interests and enhance technical skills by exposing young scientists and engineers to the exciting range of opportunities offered through the DOE. The deadline is this Friday, February 1, 2008, for preferred consideration. AAMC fee assistance program now accepting applications
The AAMC's Fee Assistance Program (FAP)--which helps defray the cost of applying to medical school and taking the entrance exam--is now accepting applications for 2008. The FAP reduces or waives fees associated with the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) and the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) for applicants whose annual family income is 300 percent or less of the federal poverty level. To receive fee assistance this calendar year, qualified applicants must obtain approval from the FAP prior to registering for any MCAT 2008 test dates or entering into the AMCAS 2008 medical school application cycle.

American Chemical Society Scholars Program
The American Chemical Society Scholars Program is now accepting applications for the 2008-2009 academic year. The Four Directions Summer Research Program (FDSRP) began in 1994 as an idea among Native American students attending Harvard Medical School (HMS). Hispanic Scholarship Fund Applications now Available
Scholarship applications for the 2008-2009 academic year are now available online at WWW.HSF.NET. Last year, HSF awarded nearly 4200 scholarships and over $26.5 million to high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate level college students. The online application must be completed and all requested materials must be postmarked and sent to HSF by the deadlines listed on the website. The deadline for most scholarships is MARCH 15, 2008.

Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity for Ph.D.s inBiomedical Sciences
The prestigious NIH IMSD in biomedical sciences at the University of Arizona, awards ten underrepresented students yearly admitted to one of sixteen biomedical Ph.D. programs at the University of Arizona. Year one scholars receive: $21, 941 salary, tuition fees waived, experience 3-4 laboratory rotations, participate in a colloquium course designed to teach graduate school survival skills, $1,000 in travel funds to attend a national scientific conference, and $1,500 for dissertation support.

Life Sciences Summer Undergraduate Research Program at the University of Minnesota
Come join one of our five life sciences programs. Begin with a joint orientation weekend (May 29-June 1, 2008), followed by a 10-week research project under the direction of a University of Minnesota faculty mentor, and special activities focused on professional development as well as social interaction. Lunar and Planetary Institute Summer Program
The Lunar and Planetary Institute is offering undergraduate students with 50 semester credit hours or more the chance to experience cutting-edge research in lunar and planetary science. Student interns will get to work one-on-one with scientists from the LPI or NASA’s Johnson Space Center to conduct research on projects of current interest to the lunar and planetary science community. This 10-week program will allow students the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the best lunar and planetary scientists in the field.

Native American and Pacific Islander Research Experiences (NAPIRE) Program
Native American and Pacific Islander Research Experiences (NAPIRE) Program is accepting applications for summer 2008. The NAPIRE Program is designed to introduce Native American and Pacific Islander undergraduate students to the biodiversity of the tropics. Public Health Sciences Institute (PHSI) at Morehouse College - Project: IMHOTEP
IMHOTEP is an eleven-week internship designed to increase the knowledge and skills of undergraduate and graduate students in biostatistics, epidemiology, and occupational safety and health. Research Experience in Molecular Biotechnology & Genomics
This REU program at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, focuses on providing an intensive research experience focused on molecular biology, biotechnology and genomics of animals, microbes and plants. Summer Interships Available in Polar Research
The Polar Earth Observing Network (POLENET) is a science and technology project funded by a major grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Scientists and engineers work together in the Arctic and Antarctica to better understand the feedbacks between the solid earth and the polar ice sheets as global climate changes. Three types of internships are available to work on the POLENET project. Each runs from approximately mid-June to mid-August; pays a stipend and also pays for room & board and travel; and provides for participation in national science conferences. Successful applicants are eligible to participate for multiple summers in POLENET research.

Summer Research Program in New York City
Gateways to the Laboratory Summer Program, sponsored by the Weill Cornell/Rockefeller/Sloan-Kettering Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program in New York City. This ten week program allows freshman and sophomore (class of 2010 or 2011) underrepresented minority and/or disadvantaged students to experience life as a MD-PhD student. Triangle Coalition Annual Conference on STEM Education Policy
Triangle Coalition has opened registration for its Annual Conference on STEM Education Policy. The Conference will be held on February 25-26 and will focus on key issues confronting education leaders at all levels. Among the topics at this year's conference will be the reauthorization of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), and the continuing discussion concerning American competitiveness and the best approaches to STEM education.
