The first Chapter Regional Meeting will be hosted by the Purdue SACNAS Student Chapter in West Lafayette, Indiana on Saturday, February 21, 2009, from 8:00AM-4:00PM.
The goals are to establish a forum through which regional student chapters can: (a) strengthen relationships by chapter and leadership development activities; and (b) improve the visibility of SACNAS within the Midwest Region and inform teachers from surrounding communities about SACNAS opportunities for them and their students. 2009 Bodega Marine Laboratory Summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates
The Bodega Marine Laboratory is seeking motivated undergraduate students interested in marine science careers to participate in a Summer Research-Experience-for-Undergraduate Program, supported by the National Science Foundation. During this 8 week program (June 21- Aug 15, 2009). Faculty and other mentors will provide one-on-one research training, from choosing a topic to writing a paper, in a friendly supportive environment. The program includes a unit on scientific ethics as an essential element of a science career path. Participants will receive a stipend ($3600) plus all laboratory housing and meals and travel costs. 2009 Ernest F. Hollings Undegraduates Scholarship Program at NOAA
The 2009 Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduates Scholarship Program offers a 10-week paid internship opportunity to students majoring in any of the NOAA mission disciplines. Participants will be given up to $8000 in academic assistance per school year for up to 2 years, a 10-week paid ($650/week) summer internship, and housing subsidy during internship.

20th Arabidopsis Conference- Minority Funding
The International Conference on Arabidopsis Research is the largest annual international science conference for researchers studying the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, and for other plant biologists interested in the applications of basic biology of plants. We will award full funding to attend the conference in Edinburgh, Scotland to a select group of underrepresented minorities including: undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs and faculty. American Chemical Society Scholars Program
The American Chemical Society sponsors an undergraduate scholarship program for students majoring in a chemical science - such as chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or other chemically-related disciplines. Students must also be planning a career in that science. Information and the on-line and down-loadable application forms can be found on our web site. Scholarship amounts range from a minimum of $1000 to a maximum of $5000 per year depending on year in school and financial need.

APS Scholarship Program for Minority Undergraduate Physics Majors
The American Physical Society is once again pleased to offer the APS Scholarship Program for Minority Undergraduate Physics Majors. This excellent, highly competitive scholarship program not only provides funding to students, but also a great deal of student support. This scholarship is open to African-American, Hispanic-American, and Native American high school seniors and college freshmen or sophomores who are U.S citizens or permanent residents and are majoring or planning to major in physics, we encourage all eligible students to apply right away. The award includes $2000 for new students, and $3000 for renewal students as well as a local physics mentor and an APS physics mentor.

Become a Summer Intern at the Lunar and Planetary Institute!
The Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) invites undergraduates with at least 50 semester hours of credit to experience research in the planetary sciences. As a summer intern, you will work one-on-one with a scientist either at the LPI or NASA Johnson Space Center on a research project of current interest in plenetary science. The 10-week program runs tentatively from June 8, 2009 to August 14, 2009. You will receive a $5000 stipend and a $1000 travel expense reimbursement for U.S. citizens or $1500 for foreign nationals.

Workshop for Women in Physics
As part of the 2009 American Physical Society's annual meeting, there will be a one-day workshop for women on May 1 in Denver, Colorado. The workshop will offer professional training on effective negotiation, communication, and leadership skills, as well as a special opportunity for networking at the reception afterwards. 2009 Lunar and Planetary Science Conference
The 40th Lunar and Planetary Science Conference will be held at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center in Woodlands, Texas, March 23–27, 2009. Mathematics Awareness Month - April 2009
The American Mathematical Society, the American Statistical Association, the Mathematical Association of America, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics announce that the theme for Mathematics Awareness Month, April 2009, is Mathematics and Climate. One of the most important challenges of our time is modeling global climate. Each year the Joint Policy Board for Mathematics (JPBM) sponsors Mathematics Awareness Month to recognize the importance of mathematics through written materials and an accompanying poster that highlight mathematical developments and applications in one particular area.

Professional Development Workshop for PhD level women
The University of Washington's ADVANCE Center for Institutional Change received an award this year from the National Science Foundation ADVANCE program to hold professional development workshops for Ph.D.-level women in industry, research labs, consulting, or national labs who are interested in transitioning to academic careers in STEM.The first workshop will be held October 19 and 20, 2009.
