The National Science Foundation (NSF) is seeking qualified candidates to fill the positions of program managers for the Biological, Chemical and Physical Oceanography Programs, the three programs comprising the Ocean Section in the Division of Ocean Sciences (OCE), Directorate of Geosciences. The Division of Ocean Sciences (OCE) supports basic research and education to further understanding of all aspects of the oceans and their interactions with the earth and the atmosphere, as well as research on the Laurentian Great Lakes. The division also offers opportunities to participate in global change research programs and other focused programs.
The Biological Oceanography Program supports research in marine ecology broadly defined – relationships among marine organisms and their interactions with the environment of the sea. More information about the Biological Oceanography Program can be found on its website at: http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=11696&org=OCE&from=home. The Biological Oceanography Program is a team of scientists led by Dr. David Garrison.
The Chemical Oceanography Program supports research into the chemical components, reaction mechanisms, and geochemical pathways within the ocean and at its interfaces with the solid earth and the atmosphere.More information about the Chemical Oceanography Program can be found on its website at: http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=11698&org=OCE&from=home.The Chemical Oceanography Program is a team of scientists led by Dr. Donald Rice.
The Physical Oceanography Program supports research on a wide range of topics associated with the structure and movement of the ocean, with the way in which it transports various quantities, with the way the ocean's physical structure interacts with the biological and chemical processes within it, and with interactions between the ocean and the atmosphere, solid earth and ice that surround it.More information about the Chemical Oceanography Program can be found on its website at: http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=12729&org=OCE&from=home.The Physical Oceanography Program is a team of scientists led by Dr. Eric Itsweire.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent experience in the field of science germane to the program (marine ecology/biological oceanography, marine chemistry/chemical oceanography, or physical oceanography, respectively) or a closely related field of science. In addition, the Associate Program Director position requires at least four years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the program. A broad understanding of the current status of the relevant academic scientific community and its inter-relationship with NSF, other federal agencies, and international planning efforts if highly desirable.
Applicants interested in an IPA, Visiting Scientist, or Federal Temporary appointment should see NSF announcement Dear Colleague Letter oce0901 and the following vacancy announcements e20090052 - Rotator, e20090053 - Rotator, and e20090054 - Rotator. You may contact Dr. Phillip Taylor, Head, Ocean Section (prtaylor@nsf.gov, 703-292-8580) for details, and/or the relevant Program lead listed above. The position requirements and application procedures are located on the NSF Home Page at www.nsf.gov/about/career_opps/.Hearing-impaired individuals should call TDD at 703-292-8044.Applications are encouraged by June 1, 2009.
