The Heart Institute and the Division of Biomedical Informatics at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center/University of Cincinnati College of Medicine are jointly seeking a junior or mid-level faculty member.
Qualified candidates must have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD with formal training in medical informatics or a record of significant scholarly contributions to the field. Academic rank and tenure track will be determined by the candidate's credentials and research experience. Candidates for a mid-level appointment must have a significant record of publications and independent NIH grant support. Experience in cardiovascular research is preferred but not required. Candidates with prior experience with registries, data warehousing and data mining, especially with the i2b2 platform is preferred. Additionally, experience in quality improvement and clinical effectiveness research is a plus. Cincinnati Children's Hospital is an international leader in improving child health and ranks among the top three pediatric medical centers nationally in the amount of money received from NIH in support of research. The Epic Electronic Health Record supports clinical care at Cincinnati Children's and is linked to the i2b2 research patient data warehouse, hive, and workbench to support translational research. The Heart Institute, directed by Drs. Jeffrey Robbins and Jeffrey Towbin, merges the diverse disciplines of basic molecular research, clinical care, clinical and translational research, education, operations and outcomes improvement. The responsibilities for the position include; development, implementation, and evaluation of new methodologies for acquiring, representing, processing, and managing data and information related to clinical phenotypes and disease processes in pediatric cardiovascular disease. Individuals will work closely with the i2b2 and Epic teams and with researchers to identify genes associated with specific cardiovascular phenotypes, assess risk, and document outcomes of treatment. Faculty is expected to develop both independent and collaborative research programs.
