SACNAS Postdoc Programs

SACNAS sustains a vibrant and active community of postdoctoral scientists. Resources and initiatives of the SACNAS Postdoc Programs aim to assist members to flourish during the transition from student to professional researcher, educator, administrator and/or policy leader.
Minority Postdoc Community
Throughout the year members of SACNAS' minority postdoc community interact online in an exchange of peer-to-peer mentoring activities. The Minority Postdoc website provides information on events, job and fellowship opportunities and career advancement resources. Sign up online to become a member of the online Minority Postdoc Community and take part in additional activities such as discussion groups, polls and opportunity listings.

Doctorate degree recipients are eligible to receive a one-year free membership to the organization. For more information, see the SACNAS Membership page.

SACNAS News
Each edition of the organization's publication, the SACNAS News, honors recent recipients of a doctoral degree and includes details on their accomplishments. Submission guidelines and additional details are available on the SACNAS News page.

National Conference
SACNAS Conference Travel Scholarships
Postdocs are invited to advance their science career by taking part in the SACNAS National Conference. To assist postdocs in being able to take advantage of the opportunities and mentoring activities of the national meeting, financial assistance for airfare and/or lodging is available.

Conference Leadership Institute
Take part in the Conference Leadership Institute activities offered during the first day of the annual national conference. The institute is part of the year-round Leadership Program which includes a week-long Summer Leadership Institute and on-going communication during the academic year. Institute topics vary by year and cover key skills such as taking charge of your career, creating a leadership path, building and working with teams, and university administration.

Postdoc Research Presentations
The postdoc poster showcase, presented during the Postdoc and Graduate Student Reception, features members of the SACNAS postdoc community presenting their exemplary research. Postdocs are encouraged to use this session to network with professional participants with regards to faculty search committees and career opportunities in industry.

Call for Mentors and Judges
Abstract Review: Critical review of student abstracts and presentations is an important mentoring activity and enhances the quality of science presented at the organization's national meeting. Student abstract reviews are scheduled for July and August. To be part of the Abstract Review Committee, contact info@sacnas.org or (toll free) 877-SACNAS-1.

Presentation Judging: Becoming an accomplished research presenter is a critical skill for SACNAS students. To lend your expertise at the conference as a presentation judge, contact info@sacnas.org or sign up online when you register for the conference.

SACNAS Distinguished Mentor Awards
In order to honor those dedicated individuals who serve as mentors and role models to the next generation of minority scientists, SACNAS presents the Distinguished Mentor Awards annually. Postdocs are invited to nominate a mentor for recognition by the Society. Award recipients receive complimentary travel and lodging to the annual SACNAS conference and are presented with recognition of their award at the Awards Ceremony.
