SACNAS member and 2017 SACNAS featured speaker Dr. Rosalyn LaPier received the George M. Dennison Presidential Faculty Award for Distinguished Accomplishment as part of the University of Montana’s 125th year celebration and Charter Day awards ceremony. This award honors the distinguished accomplishments of faculty members that have brought recognition to UM both regionally and nationally.

Dr. LaPier is an enrolled member of the Blackfeet Tribe of Montana and Métis. She felt both honored and humbled to share the stage with one of her great mentors, as well as one of the first ever Blackfeet to go to college, Dr. Patrick Weasel Head (retired), who also received a UM Alumni award. Of her award she says, “I’m the first Native faculty to ever get one, so I’m pretty happy about that just to push forward the idea that we need more Native faculty.”

Congratulations Dr. LaPier!
