SACNAS Elects 5 New Board Members - SACNAS

Four general board members and one student board member to take office January 2021

SANTA CRUZ, CA & WASHINGTON D.C.

SACNAS (Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics & Native Americans in Science) announces the election of the following individuals to its national Board of Directors. They will take office in January 2021, serving their term until December 2023.

Professor and Director of Mathematics for STEM Education 

Arizona State University 

Student Board Member Elect 

Shaimar González Morales, MS 

PhD Student in Integrated Biomedical Sciences 

University of Texas Health – San Antonio 

“I am so pleased to introduce the newly elected Directors to the SACNAS Board. In order to achieve true diversity in STEM, a first critical step is to have leaders that reflect and represent the demographics of the nation. Congratulations to these selfless leaders,” said SACNAS President Dr. Sonia Zárate, “I would also like to express my gratitude to those that exercised their right to vote and making their voices heard in this election. Adelante!” 

In addition, Dr. Pam Padilla will assume her role as President starting January 1, 2021. She will be the fifth woman in the organization’s 47 year history to hold the office of president. Previous female presidents were Drs. Sonia Zárate, Maria Elena Zavala, Marigold Linton, and Maggie Werner-Washburne.
