SACNAS Public Events in San Antonio To Promote STEM Diversity - SACNAS

SACNAS to Offer Public Events in San Antonio in Conjunction with their 45th Anniversary Celebration and National Conference to Promote STEM Diversity

Events include Community College Day, Pow Wow, Cybersecurity Symposia and Expo, and a storytelling session to share personal and professional experiences in STEM

2018 SACNAS – The National Diversity in STEM Conference— Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics & Native Americans in Science’s annual conference in San Antonio– will include a series of public events, several of which are free. The events will take place between Wednesday, October 10 and Saturday, October 13, 2018. The show is the country’s largest multidisciplinary and multicultural STEM diversity conference convening nearly 4,000 STEM leaders, scientists, academics, researchers, professionals and college students at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center from October 11-13, 2018.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10

Community College Day
This event is free and open to all local community college students. The agenda includes includes networking, inspirational talks, workshops, and a resource fair with information on internships, scholarships, and financial resources. Spaces are limited.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12
Pow Wow
Every year SACNAS hosts an intertribal celebration at its annual conference that is free and open to the public. No RSVP needed.
Where: Stars at Night Ballroom, Henry B. González Convention Center
Time: 8:00 – 10:30 PM

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13
SecureSTEM: Cyber Security Symposia & Expo hosted by National Security Agency
This 4-hour program is free and open to the public. It will feature multiple sessions, a cyber security challenge, interactive expo, and a closing reception. RSVP is required as spaces are limited.

Time: 2:00 – 6:00 PM

Story Collider
The Story Collider is a nonprofit organization dedicated to true, personal stories about science. Their latest show was developed in conjunction with SACNAS and will highlight stories of courage told by five SACNAS members. Tickets are $10 on EventBrite, seating is limited (only 100 seats available). For audiences 21 and up. Click here to see the Facebook event page.
