Cultural & Indigenous Marketplace

Thursday – Saturday, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm daily  

The Cultural and Indigenous Marketplace vendors will be set up on the Level II Foyer area. The cultural artists will be selling items they have created and will include jewelry, beadwork, paintings, pottery, clothing and much more! Stop by and visit the marketplace and support our Indigenous artists!  

Celebration of Puerto Rican Culture and Dance Event and Reception

The Celebration of Puerto Rican Culture and Dance will be an interactive bomba, the traditional dance and musical style of Puerto Rico, rooted in the afropuertorican culture. 

Round Dance*

Saturday, 10/29/22, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Terrace 

SACNAS is hosting its first ever Round Dance! The Round Dance will feature dancing, singing and special dances as well. Our invited singers are all champion singers and recording artists – Wayne Silas (Oneida), Jason Kingbird (Red Lake), and Joseph and John Syrette (Ojibwe). The event will be emcee Manny King (Northern Cheyenne/Dine) and we will be recognizing special guests and our SACNAS board. Join us for this final event and come dance with us. The Round Dance is open to the public.

*Since we are hosting our annual conference in Puerto Rico this year, there are no locally affiliated powwow groups and organizations that can assist with hosting a powwow. One option we came up with is hosting a Round Dance in lieu of a powwow. A Round Dance will still feature singing and dancing and will be more social and inclusive. The Round Dance is also known as the friendship dance and the dance style is simple. The round dance circle moves in a clockwise direction and you move toward your left (step left, follow right).
