Associate Director, Communications & Membership

Ms. Bernal serves as the Associate Director of Communications & Membership, overseeing SACNAS’ membership strategies, providing vision, leadership, and oversight to all aspects of the member experience, within the context of the organization’s strategic plan. This includes member research, recruitment, retention, and communication of SACNAS’ national voice, initiatives, and programs. Ms. Bernal ensures that the “voice” and branding of SACNAS, including all member-facing communications, is consistent and cohesive across all programs, platforms, and events—shaping and enhancing the authenticity, integrity, identity, and growth of the organization and its members. 

A passionate writer, Daniela also supports the content development for SACNAS’ online publication, STEM + Culture Chronicle. Ms. Bernal graduated from the University of Southern California in 2014 with dual degrees in Broadcast & Digital Journalism (Annenberg School), and Earth Science (Dornsife). Prior to joining SACNAS, Ms. Bernal worked in communications for the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust, the Southern California Earthquake Center, and the American Red Cross. Ms. Bernal joined SACNAS in 2016 as a part-time Communications Assistant, and continues to be honored to support historically underserved groups find their voice and inspire their peers.
