Current Board Member (2021-2023)
Adjunct Associate Professor and Director @ Indiana University and Pacific Ecoinformatics and Computational Ecology Lab
As the son of one of SACNAS’ founders (J.V. Martinez), I’m a life-long member that has been involved with SACNAS since I was a child. My dedication to our “True Diversity in STEM” mission has extended throughout my academic career including professorships at San Francisco State University, Cornell University, University of Arizona and Indiana University. As a network scientist and ecologist in one of the least diverse sciences, I look forward to working with SACNAS to break through the glass ceiling that has largely excluded people with indigenous roots in the western hemisphere from its top science departments. This includes empowering SACNAS members and especially chapter members to more effectively encourage faculty diversity at their universities through social media and direct action. It also includes enhancing mentoring within specific disciplines among SACNAS members and strengthening alliances with other organizations supportive of our mission.
