SACNAS welcomes Ms. Darryl Monteau as SACNAS’ Native Initiatives Manager.

“This is a community that has long celebrated the immense contributions of Native and Indigenous peoples to science,” said Ms. Monteau. “In this role I look forward to enriching the STEM workforce with innovative and diverse voices, both by continuing to highlight the diversity that already exists in STEM, and by supporting our Native and Indigenous members with specific programs and opportunities to help them reach their highest goals.”

Darryl is a Kiowa, Apache, and Comanche native originally from Oklahoma and currently resides in Kansas. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in American Indian Studies from Haskell Indian Nations University and a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas (KU). She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration from KU. Darryl has worked in higher education at both public and tribal colleges for most of her professional career. Her areas of expertise include academic affairs, student services, nonprofit organizations, and grant-funded initiatives. Most recently, she worked with the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) as a program coordinator for the Aseto’ne Network Project (NIH program) which engaged tribal college students in biomedical and health research. She enjoys working with college students, especially students of color, to help them navigate their collegiate experience, prepare for their professional careers, and share information and opportunities to enhance their academic experience.

Mr. Eben Lindsey, SACNAS Director of Education and Leadership says, “The Native Initiatives Manager position is an essential role in helping SACNAS deliver our mission and working towards our vision of achieving true diversity in STEM. We look forward to utilizing Darryl’s expertise and passion to continue to deliver critical programming and provide new opportunities for our Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and other Indigenous members.”
