The Linton-Poodry SACNAS Leadership Institute (LPSLI) provides premier training for motivated STEM professionals from populations that have been historically excluded and, as a result of exclusion, are underrepresented in STEM. Professionals interested in advancing their leadership of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all sectors of STEM (academia, industry, and non-profit, and government), are encouraged to apply.

About the Program

Accepted applicants will engage in an experiential training with their cohort over the course of a work week, including:

✅ Potential workshop topics: Leading Change, Emotional Intelligence, Management of Bias, Leadership Development Planning, and more

✅ Career-stretching insights through a 360 degree assessment

✅ Mentorship and lunches with distinguished leaders

✅ Upon program completion, enter a network of 300+ alumni who are creating stronger, more inclusive STEM environments at academic institutions, nonprofits, government, and for-profit science companies

The Details

Program Dates & Location: June 12-16, 2023, In-Person at HHMI Headquarters in Chevy Chase, Maryland

Eligibility: Must be an early- or mid- career STEM professional (defined below) working to advance change in STEM. Applicants should have a doctorate degree. For any questions about eligibility, please contact us.

Early career STEM professionals are generally in their first 3-7 years following awarding of terminal degree and/or postdoctoral research training
Mid Career STEM professionals have generally moved beyond their entry level status through promotion or transition to new roles of increased responsibility

Please note, postdocs are not eligible to apply for LPSLI. If you are a postdoc, our separate program - the Postdoc Leadership Institute (PLI) will be hosted at 2023 NDiSTEM.

Program Investment: up to $2,500
Participants are encouraged to work with their company/institution to support up to a $2,500 cost share – representing only 25% of the total cost of this program. If institutional funding cannot be secured, SACNAS will fully support participation of accepted candidates.

SACNAS Postdoc Leadership Institute (PLI)

SACNAS is excited to announce that the second annual Postdoc Leadership Institute (PLI) will be taking place at 2023 SACNAS – The National Diversity in STEM Conference! 

PLI is a two-part workshop for postdocs looking to develop their leadership skills and ability to bring their whole selves – including their culture – to work as an asset. Participants will be engaged in a customized curriculum, mentoring opportunities, practical skills training, and the opportunity to join a strong network of fellow diverse STEM leaders for year-round support.
