Applications reviewers are professionals with a bachelor’s degree or higher who volunteer to review SACNAS Annual Conference travel scholarship applications online PRIOR to the conference.

When: April 13 - 24

Time: Approximately 5 hours

Eligibility: Must have a bachelor's degree. Cannot be a current student.

Impact: Help our SACNISTAS, including first-time attendees and first-generation students, attend the 2026 SACNAS Annual Conference.

Location: Online

When: April 13 - 24 and/or July 20 - July 31

Time: Approximately 5 hours

Eligibility: Must have a master's degree. Cannot be a current student. 

Impact: Equip budding researchers with the skills and feedback needed to present at the SACNAS Annual Conference.

Volunteers must have a bachelor’s degree or higher to review conference session proposals online PRIOR to the conference.

Location: Online

When: May 26 - June 5

Time: Approximately 5 hours

Session Types: There are two types of session proposals to be reviewed.

• STEM Symposia proposals consist of discipline-specific talks and panels highlighting research and advancements in STEM fields.
• Professional Development proposals consist of trainings and informational workshops for students and professionals.

Eligibility: Must have a bachelor's degree. Graduate students are eligible. Cannot be directly affiliated with a proposal.  

Impact: Lend your voice to the SACNAS community and help curate diverse programming at our annual conference.

For many students getting direct mentorship can make all the difference in validating and motivating them to persist in their STEM journey. By serving as a mentor judge, volunteers provide constructive feedback and motivation to student research presenters, including many first-time presenters and first-generation college students. In addition to giving back to student SACNISTAs, this is a great opportunity to get exposed to new research in your field, as well as networking and recruiting talented students.  

Eligibility: 

• Motivated to provide positive and constructive feedback to student presenters 
• Must be a STEM professional with a Master’s degree or PhD 
• Previous experience in judging/mentoring similar events is preferred but not required! 
• Must be a registered attendee for the SACNAS Annual Conference

Time commitment:  Approximately 2 hours  during the SACNAS Annual Conference.

IMPORTANT: Mentor judges are not eligible for discounted or waived conference registration

Conversations with Scientists is SACNAS's signature mentoring event that has been occurring for over 30 years. In this 90-minute program, undergraduate and graduate students can meet and speak with mentors in their own fields during one of the lunches at the SACNAS Annual Conference. Conference attendees are divided up based on discipline, and then, by sub-discipline. Mentors answer specific questions and also share their own educational and professional stories.

Time commitment: Approximately 90 minutes during our annual conference.
